Maj. Pond retires from reserves

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Maj. Kevin Pond recently retired from U.S. Army Reserves after thirty six years of reserve and active duty service.

A 1971 graduate of Mather High School in Munising, Pond attended Bay Community Collage and is a graduate of San Diego State University. He entered the Navy in 1974 and the California Army National Guard in September 1979.

Pond served in a number of positions at company and battalion levels for California Army National Guard before transferring to the Army Reserves. After receiving the rank of major, Pond returned to the enlisted ranks and was called up to active duty in September 2003 and was deployed to Afghanistan in August 2008.

He has two sons: Nicholas Pond, who is attending Northern Michigan University, and David Pond, who will be attend Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz., this spring.

His brother Michael Pond lives in Marquette and brother Greg Pond lives in Munising. His parents were the late Francis N. and Rita b Pond. He now lives in Phoenix, Ariz., where he is employed at Luke Air Force Base in the Cardiopulmonary Department.
