Shirley J. Johnson
NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI. – Shirley June Johnson, 83, of 401 Co. Rd. 510, Negaunee Township, passed away peacefully at her beloved home on the Dead River Basin on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.
Shirley was born August 22, 1929 in Ishpeming to J. Vertin and Lillian (Kumpala) Dobbs. She graduated from the Negaunee Adult Education Program in 1986. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee. Shirley was most happy spending time with her family on the Dead River Basin.
Surviving are her 5 daughters: Paulette (Dean) Patron of Negaunee Township, Barbara (David) Herman of Negaunee, Donna (George) Grawn of Marquette, Chris Johnson and Sandy (Steve) Etelamaki, both of Negaunee Township. Grandma ‘J’ is also survived by her grandchildren: Bob (Nicole) Hyry, Kevin (Shylo) Hyry, Christy (Steve) LaJoie, Amanda Kivela, Jeremy Herman, Nathan DeWitt, Matt (Becky) DeWitt, Natalie Patron and Lisa Etelamaki; great-grandchildren: Chelsee, Ryan, Ashley, Hadden and Zak Hyry; Marshall Nothelfer; Madison, Carter and Leah McCracken; Jackson, Julien and Jenna Herman; Carson Zorza and Eros DeWitt; 4 brothers: Paul Dobbs of Negaunee, John (Ginger) Dobbs of Kenosha, WI, Bob Dobbs of Campbellsville, KY, and Ray (Ann) Dobbs of Green Bay, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 32 years, Robert P. ‘Broggie’ Johnson on June 29, 1980.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 13th at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Marcia Solberg officiating. Interment will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 1:30 p.m. until the time of services at 3 p.m. at the church on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the following: Immanuel Lutheran Church Good Samaritan Fund, the Alzheimer’s Association, or your local food bank in Shirley’s memory.
