Blanche Mary ‘B’ Brown

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Blanche Mary “B” Brown, age 94, of 337 W. Bluff Street, Marquette, entered eternal life Sunday evening, January 6, 2013, at Marquette General Hospital.

Born June 18, 1918 in Marquette, a daughter of Charles Edward and Olive Jane (Parker) LaPointe, B was raised in Marquette and graduated in 1936 from the Graveraet High School. On August 9, 1939, she married Lenard Clayton Brown at the First Baptist Church, Marquette, and during the war years, while Len was in service, B worked in Florida. The couple returned to Marquette following his military discharge and, throughout the years, B worked occasionally at Montgomery Ward and managed the Vogette. Her true vocation, however, was as a wife, mother, and homemaker. B enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests including square dancing, bowling, and playing cards. Her passion, however, was as an artist with both paper and eggs. She studied, practiced, and became proficient in the art of creating fancy paper edgings and making cards, in a style very common in Europe and Japan, but rare locally. Her other interest was as an egg artist, using a diamond drill to create delicate, filigree egg ornaments. Family and friends were fortunate to receive one of her special creations and she proudly displayed her handiwork at her home during the Easter Season. B was a member of the Worldwide Egg Guild.

Survivors include her sons, Clayton Wallace (Irene) Brown of Marquette and Glen Edward (Kathleen) Brown of Arlington, VA; her grandchildren, Greg (Jeanie) Brown, Gary (Alana) Brown, Gerry (Alison) Brown, Sherri (Carl) Fassbender, Stacy (Randy) Larson, Timothy (Michelle) Brown, and Glenys Brown; great-grandchildren, Katherine, Jessica, Emily, Eric, Samantha, Kelsey, Chad, Ashley, Spencer, Hunter, Landon, and Evan; a brother, Clifford (Catherine) LaPointe of Santa Fe Springs, CA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, B was preceded in death by her husband, Lenard, in 1994; infant son, Larry Charles Brown; sisters, Lucille King, Eva Juntunen, Margaret Brunelle, and Louise Karen; and brothers, Leo and Arthur LaPointe.

Honoring B’s request, there will be no visitation and private family services will be held with Rev. Nicholas J. Cammarata officiating. Burial will be made in the Park Cemetery. Honorary escorts will be grandson, Timothy Brown and great-grandsons, Spencer and Hunter Larson, Chad, Landon, and Evan Brown, and Eric Fassbender.
