Miners shade Emeralds in M-PC girls basketball

NEGAUNEE – Rosalie Anderson and Ashley Veale led the Negaunee High School girls basketball team to a 47-45 Mid-Peninsula Conference victory in overtime Friday night over visiting Manistique.

Anderson scored 14 points and hauled down 10 rebounds, and Veale contributed 10 points, for the Miners (6-1 overall, 4-0 M-PC).

“The girls were tired coming off a long (holiday) break,” NHS head coach Brandon Sager said. “It affected the game.

“We didn’t shoot well at all, but fought back. We made a few defensive stops, stepped up with key plays and just gutted it put.”

Gabby LaFayette and Kyra Lauzon notched 10 points apiece for Manistique (2-5, 1-3).
