Salvation Army in need of additional financial support

A story on the front page of Friday’s Mining Journal should serve to underscore a financial need of a well-known local organization.

According to Salvation Army officials in Marquette, cash donations were up significantly for the 2012 Mining Journal Cheer Club. That said, kettle contributions, which are earmarked for programs other than the Cheer Club, were off.

Salvation Army officials had set a goal of $100,000, according to Capt. Joel Arthur. About $85,000 was taken in, leaving a $15,000 short fall.

But there is still time to help. The Salvation Army will accept donations that can be applied to the $100,000 goal through next Wednesday.

We hope local residents step up and assist this very worthy organization to attain its goal. For more information, call the Marquette Salvation Army at 228-2241.
