SKANDIA, Mich. – Janis Hollowell, beloved wife of Douglas, both of Skandia, passed from this earth and entered heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 27, 2012.
Janis was mother to four: Lane Hollowell of Portland, OR; Lori (Scott) Gilbertson of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; Bonnie (Mark) Haglund of Ishpeming; and Regan (Peter) Olson of Des Plaines, IL. She was also a grandmother to five: Steven (Kristine) and Benjamin Kivela, Adam and Matthew Gilbertson, and Tia Haglund. Additionally, she was a devoted interim parent to foster children.
Janis grew-up in Tinley Park, IL. where her parents Leah and Fred Rossow instilled the fundamentals of being a Christian within her. She married Doug in Crete, IL. and soon after they lived briefly in Winnipeg and Dieppe Canada as well as Syracuse, NY, while Doug worked for a railroad company. They then returned to Tinley Park where they bought their first house before moving to Rochester, MI. The family settled in the Marquette area in 1976. Janis worked for years as resident manager at the Parkway Motel in Harvey and then as front desk receptionist at The Landmark Inn in Marquette. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Green Garden for over 30 years.
A memorial service will be held there on Saturday, January 5 at 11:00 a.m. The family requests that donations be sent in Janis’s name to Lake Superior Hospice of Marquette in lieu of flowers.
