Skating fun at city commons rink
MARQUETTE – As the temperatures drop and the snow piles up, many residents turn to various outdoor recreation activities such as skiing and skating to get through the winter months.
The Marquette Commons ice rink recently attracted many skaters, young and old, to ring in the new year.
About a dozen people were gliding across the ice Monday evening, including two families who were visiting the rink for the first time.
“We had tried a couple of surrounding areas but there wasn’t enough snow,” said Darcy Bergerson of Skandia.
She and her family, along with her sister and her family, decided to try the Commons rink and said they loved it.
Bergerson added that it was nice to have a warming area, which other areas didn’t offer.
Bergerson’s stepdaughter Kayla Bergerson said she has kept busy this holiday break.
“I really like skating a lot. I also baked, too,” she said.
Darcy Bergerson’s sister, Karena Bublitz of Perkins, said ice skating is a past-time that she and her sister enjoyed as kids.
“It doesn’t cost a lot and it keeps the kids from being glued to the TV,” she said. “It brings the family together to do something fun.”
